Where to Stay in Fredericksburg

Firstly, be prepared that places in Fredericksburg book out FAST. We booked our place over a month in advance, and still, the options were few and far between. The good news is there are a million things to do in Fredericksburg all over the place, so you don’t NEED to stay right on Main Street! There are so many things to do in Fredericksburg, which means there are also tons of places to stay!

STONEWALL MOTOR LODGE
This is where Denver and I stayed last time we were in town! It’s a super cute spot right off 290 which makes it right next to all the wineries on the route, significantly closer than if you were staying in Fredericksburg directly! Also, wayyyyy less expensive. We loved our room, the incredibly kind people, and also the above rooftop deck where we could enjoy a drink before bed!

USE AIRBNB FOR RENTALS
If you’re staying with a group of 4+, I would recommend taking a look at some local Airbnb options in Fredericksburg! They’re likely to be a better bang for your buck and round out the full Hill Country experience. We’ve put together 15 of our favorite Hill Country Airbnb’s in Fredericksburg that you can take a look at!

STAY AT A HOTEL
An easy and convenient option! Find tons of hotels on Expedia, and definitely aim to stay closer to Main Street.

Some solid options are the Inn On Baron Creek for something more low cost, The Oak House for more BnB vibes, or the Town Creek Log Cabin / Hoffman Haus if you want to splurge a little!

The Best Way to Get Around Fredericksburg

We all know that we go to wine country to drink endless glasses of wine and therefore we should not be driving, so here are some safe alternatives!

UBER OR LYFT
Thankfully, Uber and Lyft have finally hit Fredericksburg! It’s a great way to hop around the city, and even get around the different wineries off 290.  If you haven’t taken either before, you can use THIS promo code for a free Lyft and THIS promo code for a free Uber !

However, be aware that service is pretty bad out by the wineries and most the time you’re waiting 20 minutes for the next Uber. If you aren’t up for the waiting or if everyone in your group has AT&T (which has the WORST reception) then stick to a shuttle service.

290 WINE SHUTTLE
For only $30 a person, the 290 Wine Shuttle will drop you from winery to winery on 290. Definitely, a very convenient way to get around, especially if you want to hit 3+ wineries on your trip! They’ve got a main pick up and drop off on Main St for those staying there, too!

The Best Wineries in Fredericksburg

Of all the amazing things to do in Fredericksburg, TX the obvious is visiting the Fredericksburg Wineries! We’re sharing the best Fredericksburg Wineries in our opinion. These have the best prices, the best wine, and the best vineyards in Fredericksburg.

William Chris Vineyards
Without a doubt, my favorite spot in Fredericksburg. This vineyard is quite a beauty (as you can see from above) and in my opinion, had the best wines of all of the vineyards. Both their red and white wines tasted incredible, and I definitely took home a bottle after. Their outdoor patio is open to the public and features live music on weekends, and they just redid their tasting room, and it’s insanely stunning (however note it is only available to wine club members).

This is the wine club that we loved SO MUCH that we ended up becoming members!

Tasting || $20 for six wines – my favorites were the Mary Ruth (white), Roussane (white), and Hunter (red)

Becker Vineyards
Enjoy delicious wine with a beautiful view. There are hundreds of acres of beautiful vineyards, as well as amazing lavender and poppy fields that make for some killer photos! Also a great spot to bring in some food and picnic while you wine. The downside is this place gets very crowded very quickly. If you’re looking for things to do in Fredericksburg, this is a great way to spend the afternoon.

Tasting || $30 for six wines, multiple options between Mixed, Red, and White tasting

Signor Vineyards

Another favorite. More of a tasting location than actual vineyards as the wine is not from Texas, but such a stunner and unique from the other Fredericksburg wineries because of its more modern look and feel. It’s a beautiful winery, perfect to take your mom or your girlfriends but I wouldn’t go for the wine as it’s pretty medium-tier compared to others in Fredericksburg!

I’ve heard extremely good things about their Elevated Tasting experience that includes food and even more wines poured by the Somm himself! I haven’t tested it myself, but my friends have said it’s well worth the $50 price tag.

Pedernales Cellars

Pedernales Cellars
A beautiful winery up off 290! I have to say the wines here are second best only to William Chris, and the view is just as spectacular. Absolutely loved the patio out here and if the weather is good, then this spot is going to be a must. Their red wines are also fabulous, and they do a really good port!

Tasting || $15 for five wines, loved their reds here a lot!

fredericksburg wineries kuhlman cellars

Kuhlman Cellars
Really loved Kuhlman cellars when I went! Their wines are all French-inspired with a Provence style, and it totally shows. We got their mixed Red flight and were impressed! Additionally, their almonds were AMAZING and a must-order. I loved the live music and outdoor patio here, beautiful for the afternoon!

Tasting || $20 for a five glass tasting menu, another one I recommend the reds for!

Fredericksburg Things To Do - Garrison Brothers Distillery

Garrison Brothers Distillery

Not a winery, but we love this spot SO MUCH and almost always bring friends here from out of town because it’s a wonderful Texas experience! Plus it’s perfect if someone in your group isn’t really craving wine and instead wants a beer or whiskey.

Their whiskey tasting is super affordable and worth every penny, and they have a Honor Box for beer and wine since they can’t sell it. We love that they have live music and tours of the property too!

Tasting || $9 for a three glass tasting menu, cash honor box for beer/wine

The Best Places to Eat in Fredericksburg (aka my favorites)

Hill Country Donuts & Kolaches (Breakfast)
A great place for delicious donuts before you hit the road and the wineries! Nothing spectacular about this place really, it’s just easy and convenient when you don’t wanna drop cash on a huge meal.

Java Ranch (Breakfast)
Another quick breakfast spot with some easier light meals, pastries, and delicious coffee. Beware that the lines can get pretty long after 10am, so maybe try and stop by early!

Old German Bakery (Breakfast/Brunch)
Where we opted to go for a sit-down brunch! Get some yummy brunch options for great prices, and there are plenty of authentic German options available. Again, beware of long lines on weekends.

Woerner’s Warehouse ($ // Lunch)
A warehouse-turned-restaurant with delicious deli sandwiches, pizzas, and healthy options! Great lunch spot if you wanna stop here Sunday before heading out (otherwise I recommend you picnic at a winery for lunch!)

Vaudville ($$ // Dinner)
One of the most gorgeous finer dining spots in Fredricksburg. Enjoy the stunning interior or hop outside for a beautifully lit terrace that will feel like true romance.

Lincoln Street ($$ // Dinner)
This is where we chose to spend our evening! Get some delicious drinks and enjoy the terrace and live music. This is a great place to end your night with you friends!

Cabernet Grill ($$$ // Dinner)
An incredibly beautiful and romantic restaurant for your evening, with delicious dinner options and the most amazing Texas wines menu to pair your food with. Indoor and outdoor seating are available, and neither will disappoint.

Ottos ($$$ // Dinner)
Another gorgeous patio, in case you can’t tell I am a total sucker for a patio! Definitely a splurge restaurant, but this perfect spot if you’re there for an event.

More Fun Things To Do in Fredericksburg!

Take a Fredericksburg Trolley Tour
Not only is this place a hot-spot for wineries, but it actually has an amazing history and German background! I recommend taking a historical trolley tour to learn more about the Fredericksburg heritage if you have time during the weekend.

Picking at the Marburger Orchards
If you want to pick the most delicious strawberries and blackberries of your life, then you have to head on over here. Sometime fun to do if you’re done with all your wine drinking but still want to enjoy the beautiful outdoors in Fredericksburg!

Go Pick Some Peaches
Fredericksburg has SO many picking places! A great way to get some fresh fruits to bring back home with you and remember your trip. I’ve only had the chance to do Das Peach Haus (which I loved), but some other great options are Vogel Orchard and Jenshke Orchard.

Things To Do in Fredericksburg TX \\ agirlfromtx \\ Luckenbach

Go Dancing at Luckenbach

Population of 3, I kid you not. Actually a great spot for some live music and true Texas culture! The one bar in town is apparently where all the locals go, so definitely worth a trip if you have the time on a Friday or Saturday night. We, however, were a little too hungover for that adventure.

Do Some Shopping on Main Street
Oh my gosh, SO many adorable spots to check out on Main Street in Fredericksburg! I couldn’t resist making some purchases myself. I recommend just taking time to stroll along the road and do some shopping in the little boutiques.

Hike Up Enchanted Rock
If you have some extra time, take the 20 minute drive to Enchanted Rock for a gorgeous hike and some killer Texas views! Make sure you bring those hiking shoes and a camera, because this definitely is not a super easy hike.

When I go traveling to a place I haven’t been before. I love to go wondering in the downtown to find the mom and pa shops and shop there. Eat at the places downtown as well.

We just visited the Peach Haus for the first time yesterday. Surprisingly, there is a pond and pine trees in the back. We had no idea because everyone posts pics of the front. They have tons of samples inside (salsa, jam, honey, mustard, etc.), and let us taste a wine for free before purchasing a bottle. We had our pup with us because Fredericksburg is very dog friendly.

We’ve been to Pedernales and a few of the other wineries as well. Sometimes they do a grape stomp in a tub for those visiting the area. We’re from San Antonio and continue to make the trip up north on a somewhat frequent basis because the area is so great.

We’ve hiked at Enchanted Rock a few times and found it to be pretty incredible. My fastest time to the top was 7.5 minutes, haha. Be sure to checkout Cross Mountain Park as well. It’s on the way up to Enchanted Rock prior to exiting the city. It’s a short hike up the hill which provides a complete view of Fredericksburg and the Hill Country. There’s a large white cross at the top, you can’t miss it!
