Where to Eat in Downtown Austin for Lunch || Updated 2022

One of my favorite things about working in Downtown Austin are all the Downtown Austin lunch options you have right around the corner! I’ve rounded up my top 10 favorite downtown lunch spots for those of us working and need a bite to eat. Lunch Downtown Austin.

Healthy Restaurants in Downtown Austin

FLOWER CHILD
$$ || 2nd & Nueces

A great spot for delicious vegan and vegetarian options! Known for having delicious salads, and I can personally attest to their vegan macaroni and cheese. Also has the to-go option if you need to get back to the office.

TRUE FOOD KITCHEN
$$ || Seaholm District

This is where my team usually goes for lunch! Delicious healthy options and very farm to table style, but still options for people that want less healthy. I usually order the pizza, which I can definitely vouch for!

MODERN MARKET
$$ || 4th & Congress

Perk of this one is you can order online and swing by to pick it up! Healthy sandwiches, salads, pizzas, and more can be found here. Also, the spot itself is super cute and very photogenic!

SNAP KITCHEN
$$ || w. Sixth Street

More of a grab and go option off W. Sixth! You can just pick one of their healthy to-go options off the shelf and take it with you. A great option if you are in a rush and need to get a move on.

CAVA
$ || 6th & Congress

A gorgeous restaurant with delicious counter-order Mediterranean bowls you can customize and eat inside, or take on the go back to your office. A newer downtown lunch spot in Austin.

Quick On-the-Go Lunches in Downtown Austin

BURGER BAR DOWNTOWN
$ || 3rd & Congress

I used to eat there all the time when I was working off 2nd street downtown! I absolutely love their burgers, and for $5 it is such a steal. There is usually a line out the block around peak downtown Austin lunchtime, but it is totally worth it for their delicious burgers.

FAREGROUND FOOD HALL

If you want a food hall with plenty of delicious options, then Fareground is going to be the best spot! You can check their website for an updated list of restaurants that they have right now

WHOLE FOODS DOWNTOWN
$ || 6th & Lamar

My go-to option closest to the office! With plenty of pre-made food options, self-serve options, and counters to order from you are absolutely going to find something that works for you. I’m a sucker for their sandwiches, so I am here at least twice a week!

ROYAL BLUE GROCERIES
$ || Multiple Locations

Oh my gosh do I love Royal Blue. There’s plenty of different locations in Downtown Austin for lunch so just check Google for what is closest to you. They have a great menu of sandwiches and pizzas, and then a daily special too. The one nearest me has a burger special on Wednesdays that I ADORE.

P. TERRYS BURGERS

You guys know I am a sucker for a good P. Terrys burger. Super affordable and super delicious, and they are known for having an amazing vegetarian burger if you’re in need of one!

Sandwich Spots & Bistro’s in Downtown Austin

JO’S COFFEE SHOP
$ || 2nd & Lavaca

Not only are they a wonderful coffee shop, but they also have really good sandwiches and burgers! A solid spot, and an Austin icon that you’re going to love swinging by for.

WALTONS FANCY & STAPLE
$$ || 6th & Rio Grande

Oh my gosh, this is one of my favorite brunch spots in Austin, and also a great lunch destination! Their all day breakfast is amazing, and their bakery is known for being incredible. Absolutely perfect if you’re doing a 1:1 lunch in downtown Austin since it’s on the smaller side!

SWEDISH HILL BISTRO
$$ || W. 6th Street

This lovely spot just reopened and is already killing it. I will admit the prices are a little on the high side but the food is delicious. A ton of sandwich, salad, and bakery options that will without a doubt satisfy everyone.

Tex Mex Restaurants in Downtown Austin

TORCHYS TACOS
$ || 2nd & Rio grande

Of course, Torchys Tacos is an Austin icon and their downtown location in Austin could not be left off this list! Obviously, their queso is one of the best in Austin and their tacos are pretty high up there too. Easy on the go option!

LA CONDESA
$$$ || 2nd & Guadalupe

More of an upscale sit down lunch spot, so this is perfect if you’re going with a group on the company dime. Just sayin’! Their tex mex options are delicious, and gotta give props to their happy hour deal (Weekday $5 margs) too!

ONE TACO
$ || 6th & Rio Grande

I am absolutely ready to argue that One Taco is one of the best taco spots in Austin when you want something simple. No over the top tacos like Torchys, just killer bare bones. I probably eat here once a week…

TACO DELI
$ || 3rd & Congress

Obviously, Taco Deli is known for having the most iconic breakfast tacos in Austin. I would absolutely grab one of those if you haven’t had the chance. Otherwise, definitely head over to pick up a lunch taco or two here!

Sit Down Company Restaurants in Downtown Austin

NUMERO 28 DOWNTOWN
$$ || 2nd & San Antonio

Okay, those of you that know me know this is one of my TOP THREE restaurants in Austin. Their pizza warms my soul and brings me endless joy. Definitely more of a sit down spot with a group, but please oh please grab a pizza while you’re there.

LAMBERTS BBQ
$$ || 2nd & Guadalupe

Definitely known for being one of the best BBQ spots in Austin! If you’ve got a group from out of town, then this is a great downtown lunch in Austin to show them how we Texans do things.

TAQUERO MUCHO
$$ || 5th & West

One of the cutest restaurants in downtown Austin for lunch! Taquero Mucho is an adorable outdoor patio + and indoor tex mex restaurant run by Gabrielas Group. They have delicious pink tacos and elotes and the most fun margaritas for the group. I normally recommend this one for happy hour with the girls, post work happy hour, or bachelorette parties!
