The Basics \\ Getting Around & What To Know About Austin
Getting from the Airport to Your Stay:
While there is a shuttle bus that exists for $1.25 from the airport into Austin, I will warn you it’s an HOUR TRIP at minimum. It’s a pain in the butt, and that’s coming from an Austinite. I almost ALWAYS recommend taking an Uber or a Lyft instead!
Should I Rent a Car or Uber?
You can totally get away with either option. I will warn you that while if you’re staying Central you’re fine without a car, places like Mount Bonnell or Lake Travis are going to be a lot cheaper if you have a car rented instead!
Should We Get a Hotel Room or Rent an AirBnb?
Don’t you love my “it depends” answers! If you plan on going out and enjoying local restaurants / don’t want to rent a car then opt for a hotel downtown. They have the added perk of those rooftop pools. Also most have an airport shuttle to save you some extra cash there too!
But if you are looking for a more low-key chill stay or have a larger group, an Airbnb is likely the way to go. You can find some GORGEOUS AirBnb options up in the Hill Country or near the wineries if you’re looking for that route!
Where to Stay in Austin
If you want a Winery Weekend…Hill Country
If you’re looking for a winery type weekend, look for places to stay in Fredericksburg, Dripping Springs, or Driftwood! I’ve got whole posts on things to do in Fredericksburg and Dripping Springs / Driftwood to help you out, and some of my favorite hotels at both!
If You Want to be On the Lake…Lake Austin
Weekends with lake days should be spent FAR WEST from Tarrytown. If you’re near Downtown then you actually won’t be able to enjoy the lake on a boat due to regulations. I would say the coolest houses are between Highway 360 and Lake Travis / on Lake Travis!
If You Want to be in the Action…
I would stay in the following areas mapped above! Focus on Downtown, East Side of Austin (below Manor), South Lamar, South Congress, or Tarrytown for the most convenient destinations!
My one tip is that I DO NOT recommend staying at the Domain. You might think it’s so cool and has everything, but you’re SO FAR from the actual action of Austin. You’ll end up dropping way too much money on Ubers getting around, and you’re going to regret your decision

Spend the Afternoon Visiting Austin Breweries and Wineries
Austin is home to some AMAZING local craft breweries & wineries! They have tons of different beer options and wine options and are almost always paired with a gorgeous patio.
You can view my complete Austin Breweries & Beer Gardens Guide here!
And my favorite wine bars in Austin are here on this list!
Take a Workout Class or a Yoga Class
If you guys want to do a fun group workout together, there are TONS of options! You can see if Outdoor Voices is hosting a free weekend workout (they usually have a bunch), take a barre or brawl class with Barre Code Austin (my personal favorite), or hit up a yoga class with Wanderlust or some of the other great yoga studios in town.
Take a Fun Pole Dancing Class
Like the workout idea, but want to bachelorette party it up? Then take a pole dancing class with Brass Ovaries in Austin! Learn the art of the pole dance and practice those moves. Guaranteed embarrassment, but also guaranteed to have a blast and get an ab workout along with it.
Take a Day Trip to Dripping Springs or Fredericksburg
The Texas hill country is home to some BEAUTIFUL wineries, basically a second, cheaper Napa. You can view my guide to Dripping Springs here and my Fredericksburg guide. Dripping Springs is closer to Austin (30 minutes) vs Fredericksburg (1.5 hours) so it’s the best option if you’re staying in the city!
Get Creative With Your Friends at Upstairs Circus
Okay so if you’re on board with the idea of doing a fun creative activity, then you should also check out Upstairs Circus in Downtown Austin! They have group art sessions and you guys can actually PICK what you want to make and each make something different. I did this as an outing for work last year and had a blast!
Relax and Have a Spa Day Together
If you are looking to stay relaxed before the wedding insanity begins, then book a spa day together instead! I would recommend checking out Viva Day Spa or Lake Austin Spa as some of the best all-around spa packages in town.
Pedal Bike Your Way Around Austin
Okay, I have never done one of these myself but I see them happening downtown ALL the time! If this is something up your alley, then absolutely go for it and I promise there are like 500 companies in Austin that have them! I haven’t gone, so I don’t have a specific company I would recommend just yet.
Take a Candle Making Class With Friends
Something fun and unique? Take a candle-making class with Candles & Co in Austin! They have pour parties you can take as a group and enjoy making your candle while drinking some wine. I got to attend one with a bunch of Austin bloggers and HAD SO MUCH FUN!

Have a Shopping Trip Day at the Domain
If you want to enjoy an afternoon of shopping and walking around with your girls, then head to The Domain in Austin! Plenty of stores worth checking out, bakeries, ice cream shops, coffee shops, restaurants, bars, and more! It’s basically the one stop shop!
Walk Around South Congress Austin
The most Austin street and the crowd will show it! A lot like the domain in terms of having every kind of store, but it’s just one long street and gives off way more Austin-vibes. Head here to be a tourist for the afternoon!
Catch a Comedy Show at Esthers Follies
Absolutely love the comedy shows at Esther’s Follies in Austin! Without a doubt going to make you laugh your butt off. Afterwards, you can walk right over to 6th street or Rainey Street for a night out!
Catch a Movie Together at Alamo Drafthouse
If you guys are looking for an Austin experience but maybe the weather is not ideal for outdoor activities, then definitely catch a movie at Alamo Drafthouse! Plenty of locations in Austin, and it’s Austin-based so you’re hitting a local spot.

Austin Bachelorette Ideas During Summer
Enjoy a Dip in Barton Springs Pool
Iconic Austin right here. Barton Springs is a great place to lay out during a hot summer day and enjoy the warm weather! Half public pool, half river, 100% will keep you cool on a hot day. They also have the free portion just behind Barton Springs, seen above! The Barton Springs main pool doesn’t allow for drinks or pets, but the free side does!
Hike Up and Enjoy a Dip in the Greenbelt
The best place on a sunny day with some friends! Grab some beers, catch some sun, and you can jump off the rocks if you are feeling bold! Park at the “Gaines Creek and Twin Falls Access Point” and follow the trail on your right all the way to the Falls. It’s about a half mile walk through the trail, and you’ll know when you’re there!
Paddleboard or Kayak on Lake Austin
It’s on every Austinite bucket list and it must be done if the weather is right! You can rent Kayaks or Paddle-board from the Texas Rowing Center, which is my personal favorite company to kayak within Austin!
Go On a Sunset Boat Bat Tour (BYOB!)
You can take a gorgeous sunset bat tour of Austin on either Lonestar Cruises or Capital Cruises in Austin! Both have wonderful sunset tours, and they’re BYOB so you can grab a bottle of cheap wine from the store and enjoy the sunset tour with your girls!
Hamilton Pool Day Trip
If you have a car and are up for the drive, head on over to Hamilton Pool just on the outside of Austin! However, tickets MUST be booked in advance. View tickets here.
Go Take a Lake Austin Boat Ride
One of the best in Austin is Float On Boat Rentals! You can take a full day trip out onto Lake Austin, just 30 minutes or so from Downtown Austin. Truly an absolute blast for a summer activity. We rent them every few years with friends and love being on the water!
And you do join other boats and meet up with other people so it’s not just a solo thing, ou can make it more social!
Float the River Down in San Marcos, Texas
A classic Austin summer activity, floating the river! This usually costs like $20-$40 per person and there are so many different companies that do it. I personally recommend checking out Don’s Fish Camp as my favorite company to float with! And you can view my entire guide to floating the river in Austin here.
Site Poolside at a Gorgeous Hotel in Austin
So many different hotels you can check out with gorgeous pools! If you’re looking to keep it a little more low-key but also want a cocktail in hand, then these should be your go-to options. One of my favorite bloggers in Austin, Shelby Sorrel, has a whole blog post listing all the best hotel pools in Austin!

Austin Bars to Visit During a Bachelorette Weekend
If You Want To… Jam Out to Kareoke Together
If you’re looking to sing some tunes together rather than going to any ‘ole bar, then here are some great options to check out!
Hi-Tunes up in North Austin & Highball in North Austin both have plenty of private rooms available (and Hi-Tunes is BYOB which def saves you money on drinks)
Ego’s off South Congress & College Roadhouse both are public bars with karaoke available inside. Ego’s has an older crowd and is always a blast, so I would recommend that one first!
You can also hang out at Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar if you want to enjoy some great music with your drinks! I have yet to go, but I have heard good things.
If You Want To… Get Your Dancing Groove On
Looking to get your dancing feet on for your Austin bachelorette party instead of just drinking and talking? I would recommend checking out Broken Spoke for a night of country dancing (I promise there are plenty of newbies there!). You can also check out Barbarella off Sixth Street for dancing or Container Bar on Rainey (although both are more on the club dancing side than anything).
If you’re wanting Texas Country but maybe want to go do other bars before and after, I would go for White Horse! $10 cover to get in and there is two-stepping, but tons of bars around to visit after if you want more than just two-stepping!
If You Want To… Jam Out to Kareoke Together
Rainy Street: Where Most Bachelorette Parties Go
If you want a night out for your Austin bachelorette party (especially if you aren’t up for shots with 18 year olds), then this is the place to be! My favorites have to be Lucille’s (to hear yourself think), Container Bar (if you want to dance), Craft Pride (for delicious beer options, live music, and pizza), and Icenhauers (for a killer cocktail)!
If You Want To… Hang Out at Low Key Local Spots
This is more of the up-and-coming spot, so you’re going to get way more of a local Austin crowd here. Also if you want to go all out, then probably just do Rainey instead since East Side is more chill. Some favorites here are Kitty Cohen’s for a delicious cocktail, Whistler’s for a good night, Lazarus Brewing for a refreshing beer, and Domo Alley Gato for a twist!
If You Want To… An Austin Night of Debauchery
The name should tell you everything you need to know. If you are under the age of 23, this is a solid place to be! If you are over the age of 23, my guess is 20 minutes into Dirty Sixth you will wonder why everyone looks so young. It’s iconic, but not my top recommendation for an Austin bachelorette party bar-hopping area. Make sure you start at Chupacabra and order a fishbowl marg, and beware that it’s the size of your head.
Afterward, you can check out some of our favorites: Maggie Mae’s, Cheers, Barbarella (THE BEST), or Recess. Your last bar should be Buckshot where you top the night off with a Colt .45 shot on the rooftop, and make sure to grab some pizza from Ropollos before you Uber back!
Or opt for West Sixth, Dabauchery but an Older Crowd
West Sixth is much like Dirty, but with an average age above 23! Our favorites are Kung Fu Saloon for the games, Greenlight Social for the Capri Suns, Concrete Cowboy for the dancing, and RIO because it’s simply a classic!
Eberly Il Brutto Brunch
Where to Eat Brunch in Austin

Eberly ($$$)
My personal favorite brunch spot. It’s gorgeous and unique, with killer food. They also have plenty of space to accommodate a larger group of people.
Taco Deli ($)
Known for having the best breakfast tacos in town! Way less expensive than most the options on this list, and its amazing. The perfect thing to get after a night out, too!
Bird Bird Biscuit ($)
If you want something fast and easy rather than a sit down spot, their biscuits are the BEST in town! More on the affordable side for sure. Not a ton of seating for a bigger group, but you can always just spread out!
Bangers ($$)
Famous for their delicious German sausage brunch & Sunday manmosas! Make sure you go at 10am when it opens to avoid a very very long wait. This is the best option if you want a boozy brunch!
Irenes ($$)
Keep it light, healthy, and Instagrammable at Irene’s on 6th! Smaller options but plenty of space available for a larger size group. Also, cute as heck.
Fresa’s South First ($$)
A great option for a tex mex style brunch with a bigger group! Plenty of space available to accommodate everyone, and great Texas style food if you are from out of state!
Hank’s Austin ($$)
A SUPER cute option for brunch where you can dress up, plus they have so much space for a bigger group to sit. The prices are also really reasonable, which makes it even better.
Patrizis Italian Food Truck Licha’s Cantina Happy Hour Fresa’s Fried Chicken Loro Patio
Where to Get Dinner With Larger Groups
Terry Black BBQ ($$)
In my opinion, the best BBQ spot in Austin (obv not including Franklins), but there is occasionally a wait! If you know you want to CHOW DOWN then this is the place to be. I also think their sides are amazing if you happen to be traveling with someone that is a vegetarian…
Matt’s El Rancho ($$)
One of the oldest restaurants in Austin, and it has lasted this long because it is one of the best for some Tex Mex! This gem is down South and perfect for a larger party. Beware, it gets busy fast!
Oasis Brewery ($$)
Okay so here is my local tip. Ditch the actual restaurant itself, because it is overpriced and the food is mediocre. If you go to the three story brewery instead, you’re going to get the BEST views and the bar food is literally better than the restaurant food. But this spot is perfect for bigger groups, and while the food isn’t life-changing the view alone makes it worth it.
Loro ($$)
Tex-mex asian fusion you’ll love, with a cute patio too! This is a great Austin restaurant for groups because of the tables and seating available. Also, they have killer cocktails so you can enjoy a drink!
Patrizis ($)
Outdoor Italian food truck that will blow your pasta-loving mind, I guarantee you! Seriously I always recommend people go here. You get AMAZING pasta for great prices (like $9ish) and they have a giant patio so you can fit lots of people.
For Ordering In … Via 313 or iFratelli Pizza
Both are amazing pizza options for ordering in! Without a doubt, Via 313 is one of the best pizza spots in Austin so you will absolutely love that! My personal favorite is iFratelli because their thin crust makes my heart sing.
Tillery Kitchen Caroline Upstairs
Where to Get Drinks With the Girls in Austin
P6 Rooftop Bar
Rooftop bar with one of the best views over the lake. Beware though, cocktails are not cheap!
Trudy’s
Open until 2am & the perfect spot for a late night margarita & some 2am tacos.
Bar Peached
A delicious cocktail spot with amazing small plates for groups!
Easy Tiger
This German style beer garden has plenty of bites and beers for your large group!
Anthem
I love the fun cocktails and outdoor patio at Anthem! Also, their tapas style menu is perfect for groups.
Lazarus Brewery
Perfect low key central brewery if you’re thinking night time craft beers are your jam.
House Wine
A cute little house turned wine bar, perfect if you want wine with your gals!
Tillery Kitchen
A gorgeous lakeside patio if you’re looking to enjoy a beer outside!
